Wood Use: Rate of Consumption Earth's human population requires an enormous quantity of wood. Statistics indicate that the 5.6 billion human population consumes an average of 9.52 billion kilograms of wood each day. If this is correct, how many kilograms (or pounds) of wood are consumed, on average, by each human on Earth each day? (1 kg = 2.2046 pounds) How much wood do you consume during a day? Are you over or under the average? Remember that cellulose comes from wood and is a raw material used in many manufactured products.
