Scoring Rubric
Score Point Four

  • Demonstrates in-depth understanding of the scientific concept(s) and of the problem-solving statement.
  • Responses are succinctly and clearly stated - within 5 degrees (F) of actual recorded temperatures, both high and low, at Pittsburgh International Airport.
  • All data presented in an organized fashion - complete diagrams & tables - with clear and effective supporting evidence from at least 4 different websites.
  • All questions from "What do we need to know?" solving statement are completed.
  • Explanations clearly support and demonstrate the relationship between data and conclusions.
  • Score Point Three

  • Demonstrates good understanding of the scientific concept(s) and of the problem-solving statement.
  • Adequately stated responses -within 7 degrees (F) of actual recorded temperatures at Pittsburgh International Airport.
  • Most data presented in an organized fashion - complete diagrams & tables with adequate supporting evidence from at least 3 different websites.
  • Explanations attempt to show a relationship between data and conclusions.
  • Score Point Two

  • Demonstrates limited understanding of the scientific concept(s) and of the problem-solving statement.
  • Responses may include misconceptions - within 10 degrees (F) of actual recorded temperatures at Pittsburgh International Airport.
  • Some data presented in an unorganized fashion - diagrams & tables are incomplete and lack supporting evidence from only 2 different websites.
  • Some questions from "What do we need to know?" solving statement are completed but contain flaws in logic and reasoning.
  • Explanations attempt but do not always show the relationship between data and conclusions.
  • Score Point One

  • Demonstrates limited understanding of the scientific concept(s) and the problem-solving statement is missing.
  • Responses include major misconceptions - more than 10 degrees (F) away from actual recorded temperatures at Pittsburgh International Airport.
  • If data are presented, they are vague and unorganized.
  • Attempts to answer a few task questions but responses are incomplete.
  • Explanations may be missing and student is not able to show the relationship between data and conclusions.
