Site Description and Photos Lower Wheeling Creek flows through urban and industrial areas of Elm Grove and Wheeling, West Virginia. View the aerial photo of Wheeling and the topographic map of the area to familiarize yourself with the general area. Additionally, the Wheeling Creek stream map shows the specific location of these sites within the watershed. Access ground and low-level aerial photographs of the sites in scenario #1 by clicking on highlighted site letters below. Site F is the closest stream site to the Ohio River, approximately 2.6 km (1.6 mi.) upstream of the confluence. Site F is just downstream of the railroad viaduct and highway bridges seen in the various photographs. Site E is 5.4 km (3.4 mi.) upstream of the Ohio River. Additionally, the combined sewage outflows pictured under the topic of sewage are from Site E. Site D is 6.2 km (3.9 mi.) upstream of the Ohio River. The sample location is just downstream of the highway bridges. Site C is located adjacent to the campus of Wheeling Jesuit College, approximately 7.4 km (4.6 mi.) upstream of the Ohio River. Site B is 10.6 km (6.6 mi.) upstream, and Site A is 12.0 km (7.5 mi.) upstream of the Ohio River and immediately downstream of the community of Elm Grove. [ Background Information ]
